Reps in rowdy session over motion to summon Tinubu

House of Representatives was on Wednesday thrown into a rowdy session after lawmakers clashed over a motion seeking to invite President Bola Tinubu to explain the alleged delay in funding constituency projects.
The motion, sponsored by Alex Mascot Ikwechegh of the Labour Party from Abia State, called on the President to appear before the House over what he described as the persistent non-funding of constituency projects across the country.

The motion was seconded, while another lawmaker proposed an amendment urging the House to suspend plenary for one week until the funding issue was resolved.
The proposals triggered a heated debate on the floor of the chamber.
Opposing the motion, Yusuf Gagdi (APC, Plateau) argued that there was no basis for summoning the President, insisting that the implementation and funding of constituency projects fall under the responsibility of the relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
Gagdi also rejected the proposal to suspend legislative activities for a week, describing it as unnecessary.
His position sparked strong opposition from some lawmakers, leading to shouting matches and disorder in the chamber.
As tensions escalated, the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, intervened and directed that the House vote on the matter.
However, Abbas ruled the proposal to invite the President out of order, stating that it did not form part of the original motion moved by Ikwechegh.
