Police arrest Three armed robbery , cultism suspects, recover firearm, ammunition

Enugu State Police Command has arrested three male suspects in separate operations., recovered two firearms, fifteen live ammunition, multiple ATM cards and other exhibits.

In a statement made available to Newsmen ion Saturday,August 29Th,2026, the police public relations officer Enugu state police command,SP Daniel Ndukwe said, “on 23 August 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., Operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested one Goodluck Hyacinth (male, aged 30) during a snap stop-and-search patrol operation at First Bus Stop, Abakpa Area, Enugu. Upon searching the suspect, who was travelling in a commercial tricycle, seven rounds of 9mm live ammunition were recovered from him.

“At about 3.00 a.m. of the following day, 24 August 2026, operatives of the Unit, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected criminal hideout at Akpaoga-Nike, Enugu East LGA. The suspects fled on sighting the Operatives, abandoning an imitation gun and multiple ATM cards, which were recovered. Manhunt of the suspects are ongoing”, Ndukwe said..

He added that earlier, on August 17, 2026, at about 2:20 p.m., Police operatives attached to the Command’s Department of Operations on routine stop-and-search duty along Lagos Street by Winners Junction, Ogui, Enugu, intercepted a commercial tricycle conveying four young men. Two of the passengers fled, while the others, Okeke Stephen Chidera (male, aged 24), and Ofefe Mathew Chukwuemeka (male, 22), were arrested. A cut-to-size firearm and eight live cartridges were recovered from them. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to membership of the Neo Black Movement (NBM) cult group.

Manhunt for the suspects that fled is ongoing, while the arrested suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for their vigilance and proactive interventions. He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to deny criminal elements the space to operate in Enugu State, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information on criminal activities and suspicious persons to the Police.
