Gov Fubara bows out of APC gubernatorial race, Says Rivers’ Peace more important

Suspended and reinstated Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the peace, unity and stability of Rivers State must come before personal ambition.
In a statement he personally signed Governor Fubara said the decision followed “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with family, friends and political associates, while pledging total support for whoever eventually emerges as the APC candidate.
The dramatic withdrawal comes amid intense political realignments in Rivers State following the prolonged power struggle between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, a crisis that previously led to a state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu in 2025.
Fubara insisted his decision should not be seen as weakness or surrender, stressing that leadership sometimes requires sacrifice for the greater good of the people. He also thanked President Tinubu and the APC leadership for their support throughout the political process.
The governor further appealed to his supporters to remain calm and united, admitting many would feel disappointed by his exit from the race but assuring them that his actions were guided by the higher interest of Rivers State.
