A 23-year-old final-year medical student, Nnani Adaobi Marian, from Arogbo community , Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo state, has died after sustaining critical injuries during a Russian airstrike in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Adaobi was wounded on June 29, 2026, when Russian forces launched a guided aerial bomb attack on the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv. She was reportedly on her way to a graduation photo session with her friend, Fatima Huseynova, a day before they were scheduled to receive their medical degrees.

Fatima was killed instantly in the attack, while Adaobi was initially treated in Kharkiv before being transferred to Germany for specialist care. Despite efforts by medical teams in both countries, she died from her injuries on July 5, 2026.
The development was made public by Kateryna Bohuslavska, popularly known as “Kate from Kharkiv,” who has consistently shared updates on the Russia-Ukraine war. She described the two young women as friends who had their entire future ahead of them.
In a tribute, Kharkiv National Medical University described Adaobi as an outstanding student who demonstrated academic excellence, responsibility, and dedication throughout her studies. The institution said she enrolled in the university in 2020 and participated in international academic internships, including at the University of Cambridge in 2024 and Biruni University in Turkey in 2025.
The university also remembered her as a compassionate, hardworking, and intelligent young woman who was passionate about helping others. It extended condolences to her family, friends, classmates, and everyone who knew her.
