Federal Government ,has announced plans to phase out the policy separating Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) from Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) after data revealed that more than 20 million pupils drop out before reaching the senior secondary level.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Ministerial Implementation and Monitoring Committee. said the decision was informed by the need to address the high rate of school dropouts and ensure a smoother transition for students from junior to senior secondary education. He noted that the reform is aimed at improving access to education, increasing retention rates, and strengthening the country’s basic education system.
According to the minister, the Federal Government remains committed to implementing policies that will expand educational opportunities and improve learning outcomes for Nigerian children.
