Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) has distributed more than 6,000 bags of 50-kilogram long-grain rice to over 3,000 indigent widows in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, as part of its humanitarian intervention programme aimed at supporting vulnerable members of society.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony held on Sunday August 23, 2026, the Founder of the Foundation, Sir Dr. Emeka Offor, reaffirmed his commitment to alleviating hardship among widows and other disadvantaged groups across the country
Sir Emeka Offor said the gesture was driven by the Foundation’s belief that meaningful impact does not necessarily require enormous resources but rather a genuine desire to support those in need.
According to him, each beneficiary received two bags of 50kg rice, bringing the total distribution to over 6,000 bags for more than 3,000 widows drawn from various communities.
He described the intervention as a modest contribution towards ensuring that widows are not left behind during festive periods and can share in the joy and celebrations associated with the season.
“This is our modest contribution towards supporting our widows and ensuring that they too can share in the joy and spirit of this season,” he stated.
The philanthropist noted that the distribution coincided with the celebration of the Afiofu Festival, a cultural event that symbolizes unity, heritage and communal bonds among the people.
According to him, while the festival serves as a celebration of culture and identity, it also presents an opportunity to remember and support members of society who may not have the means to fully participate in the festivities.
Offor emphasized that humanitarian intervention remains at the core of the Foundation’s mission, stressing that its programmes are designed to put people first by responding to their needs and restoring dignity and hope to vulnerable populations.
“For us at the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation, humanitarian intervention is about putting people first, recognising vulnerability, responding where we can and restoring dignity and hope to those who need it,” he said.
He further assured the beneficiaries that the Foundation would continue to champion initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of the less privileged, adding that the gesture was extended with love, compassion and a deep sense of responsibility to the community.
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely support amid prevailing economic challenges. Many noted that the assistance would go a long way in reducing the burden of feeding their families and enabling them to participate meaningfully in the festive season.
