Police arrest five suspects, recover fire arms, others exhibits in Enugu

Enugu State Police Command has arrested five male suspects in separate operations across the State. The intelligence-led operations resulted in the recovery of three firearms, six rounds of live ammunition and other incriminating exhibits.

According to the police public relations officer,Enugu state Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement he made available to Newsmen on Thursday, October 8,2026, said ,”On October 7, 2026, at about 5:10 a.m., Police operatives attached to Inyi Division, acting on a distress call concerning an armed robbery at Umuaor, Umukabia Isiama Awlaw Community, Oji-River LGA, responded to the scene and arrested one suspect, Arinze Osita Onwuaso (male, aged 26), while other suspects fled. A locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun, two live cartridges, a pry-bar, hammer, a pair of scissors and chisel were recovered from him.

Items recovered in the operations

“On October 5, 2026, operatives attached to the Nsukka Sector of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Section of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on credible information, arrested two suspected male cultists, Jonas Adejo, a.k.a. J-Money (aged 24) and Okoro Innocent, a.k.a. Virus (aged 25), at Umudioka Community, Nsukka. Three live rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from them, while they confessed during interrogation to membership of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

“In another operation on September 25, 2026, operatives of Aninri Division, in collaboration with Neighborhood Watch Group members, raided a criminal hideout at Amagu Mpu Community, Aninri LGA, and arrested Anichebe Ogbonna (male, aged 25). One locally made pistol was recovered from him.

“Also, on September 18, 2026, at about 11:00 p.m., operatives of 9th Mile Division, acting on information and in collaboration with Neighborhood Watch Group members, arrested Chukwujekwu Chukwuemeka (male, aged 38), at Ameke-Ngwo, Udi LGA, for alleged involvement in armed robberies in the area. One cut-to-size pump-action gun and one live cartridge were recovered from him.

“Investigations are ongoing, and the arrested suspects will be arraigned in court upon conclusion of investigations.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa,, has commended citizens for their support and the operatives for their prompt response to credible information, which led to the arrests and recoveries. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against armed robbery, cultism and other violent crimes across the State, and urged citizens to remain vigilant, law-abiding and supportive,” Ndukwe said
