Woman, Lagos hospital clash over ‘missing’ twin after delivery

A woman on Wednesday, accused a private hospital of withholding one of her twins after delivery ,resulting to police investigation.
The incident, which occurred in Ikotun area, gained widespread attention after a viral video showed the visibly distressed mother confronting medical staff at Tip-Top Solution Hospital. Clutching her newborn, she repeatedly demanded the whereabouts of her second baby.
“I did not come to this hospital to be robbed of my baby,” she cried, as bystanders called for the arrest of hospital personnel over alleged baby trafficking.
An obstetric scan report dated March 2026, reportedly belonging to the woman identified as Blessing Isioma David, 28, indicated a twin pregnancy. The report noted two foetuses with normal cardiac activity—one male (XY) and one female (XX).
However, the hospital’s Medical Director, Sunday Babajide, dismissed the allegation, insisting that only one baby was delivered. He attributed the confusion to an inaccurate scan result.
“The scan was wrong. It indicated two instead of one. The husband was present in the theatre and witnessed the delivery,” Babajide stated, adding that the mother was conscious throughout the procedure.
He acknowledged a lapse on the hospital’s part, noting that a follow-up scan should have been recommended to confirm the initial findings.
The Nigeria Police Force commenced an investigation into the matter. The Lagos State Police Command confirmed it is working with relevant medical authorities to determine the facts.
Police public relations officer of the command, , SP Abimbola Adebisi, assured the public that the situation is under control and that findings will be made public.
Residents have been urged to remain calm as authorities work to unravel the truth behind the conflicting claims.
