Joint security operatives in Enugu State have rescued one of three persons abducted by suspected armed men at a church in Inoyi, Affa Community, Udi Local Government Area, while intensifying efforts to rescue the remaining two victims.
The Police public relations officer of the Enugu State Police Command ,SP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement made available to Newsmen on Sunday in Enugu, said the victims were abducted in the early hours of Saturday, August 2, 2026, within the premises of a church in the community.
According to the Command, a combined team of Police operatives, Forest Guards and members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group swiftly launched a rescue operation, forcing the fleeing suspects to abandon one of the victims, who was rescued unhurt. The gunmen, however, escaped with the other two victims.
Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed the Area Commander in Oji River and the Head of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit to intensify the ongoing operation and deploy all available operational assets to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the arrest of the suspects.
The CP also ordered the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Intelligence Department to generate actionable human and technical intelligence to support the operation, while directing the activation of the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre’s surveillance and technical capabilities to strengthen the rescue efforts.
He appealed to residents of Affa Community to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could aid the rescue operation.
The Police assured the public that every available resource is being deployed to rescue the remaining victims safely and bring the perpetrators to justice.
