Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the 260 wards in Enugu State on Thursday turned out in large numbers to affirm the state Governor, Dr Peter Mbah , the party ‘s sole governorship candidate for the 2027 general election during the party’s direct primary exercise.
The exercise, which took place simultaneously across the state, saw party faithful endorsing the governor for a second term, citing his performance and developmental strides in the last three years.
At his Owo Ward in Nkanu East Local Government Area where the governor participated in the exercise, thousands of supporters welcomed him as the electoral committee comprising Prince Arinze Arum, Mrs. Ngozi Eni and Ifeanyi Ani formally presented his candidature for affirmation.
The crowd responded with a resounding positively signaling overwhelming support for the governor’s reelection bid.
The electoral committee
Speaking during the exercise, the Ward Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Mbah, described the governor’s reelection as non-negotiable, saying that his administration had transformed governance in the state.
He added the same peaceful and coordinated process was ongoing in all the wards across the state, stressing that the governor had distinguished himself through purposeful leadership and visible development.

In his remarks, Governor Mbah described the APC primary election in Enugu State as a unique democratic exercise driven by unity, consensus and grassroots participation.
According to him, the party had successfully concluded peaceful direct primaries for the 24 State Assembly constituencies without disputes, adding that the same atmosphere of harmony was witnessed during the Senate and House of Representatives primaries.
“Today again, I am the sole aspirant for the governorship ticket of our party. And it has not happened by accident or coercion or cowardice. It happened because our people are wise and they know what is good when they see one,” the governor said.
He added that the unity within Enugu APC had made the party a model for internal democracy and effective management of party affairs.
Governor Mbah further urged members to sustain the unity ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances at the polls.

The Hon. Danmalikin Hausa-led APC Governorship Primary Election Committee is expected to conclude collation of results and formally announce Governor Mbah as the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
