Asogwa emerges Best-Performing Local Govt Chairman, credits Gov Mbah for Nsukka’s transformation

Executive Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Area, Hon.Jude Chinedu Asogwa, has been honoured as the overall best-performing Local Government chairman in Enugu state , attributing the success to the people of Nsukka and the support of Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.


Asogwa, who received the award having taken a first position in an online poll organised by a group.of professionals, Businessmen and Civil Society Organizations for the best performing Local Government chairman in Enugu state, held on Thursday, August 6,2026, at the International Conference Centre, ICC Enugu, dedicated the honour to God, Governor Mbah, his wife and family, as well as the people of Nsukka Local Government Area.

Asogwa attributed success to God, Gov Mbah and support from the people of Nsukka.


He said the award was not a personal achievement but recognition of the collective efforts of the 52 communities that made up the Nsukka Local Government Area.
“As I know, this award is not given to us, but to Nsukka Local Government,” Asogwa said.
He added that his administration had deliberately adopted a grassroots development strategy designed to ensure that every community benefited directly from government intervention.


According to him, the council introduced the “One Community, One Project” initiative to ensure that development was distributed across the 52 communities.
“Our performance is that we engage our partners. We set up committees and select projects that we can do, at least one for every community in Nsukka.
“It was very hard to make sure that in every community in Nsukka we have one project. As we just mentioned, Nsukka is one of the largest local governments in Nigeria. We worked very hard to make sure we carried everybody along,” he said

The chairman added that his administration had also established a feedback mechanism through which residents could communicate their needs and assess government projects.
“We have a lot of communication from time to time. We have a feedback mechanism where we get the people’s feedback. We have a clear programme of what we are doing, and we are clearly communicating what we are doing to our people,” he said. Hon Asogwa

Asogwa listed infrastructure projects undertaken by the council, including the rehabilitation and completion of the approximately two-kilometre GRA Road linking the School of Health area to the local government secretariat and other key locations.
He also disclosed that the council had constructed bridges and other infrastructure as part of its effort to improve transportation and access to communities.
The chairman said the council was implementing a wide range of projects across Nsukka, stressing that sustaining completed projects and responding to emerging needs remained part of his administration’s priorities.


He further acknowledged the contribution of the state government under Governor Mbah, saying the governor’s development agenda had significantly impacted Nsukka

He said Governor Mbah’s administration had brought major infrastructure and social investments to the council area, including 20 Smart Schools, 21 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, 44.1 kilometres of road construction and an oxygen project valued at N1 billion, among other interventions.


Asogwa described Governor Mbah as a leader who had consistently supported grassroots development and human empowerment.
“What I want to tell you people is that the secret behind all of our performance is His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah,” he said.
“He is a leader that supports the people who are leading and supports us, the local government.”
The chairman also commended the governor for the scale of development projects being executed across the state, saying the interventions had strengthened the capacity of local governments to deliver tangible benefits to residents.


Earlier, while receiving the award, Asogwa expressed appreciation to the organisers and said he was particularly moved by the support he received from the people of Nsukka.
He recalled that he was attending an academic engagement at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, when he was informed that his people were waiting for him at the event.
“When I heard the love from my people, I can’t say no. So I started rushing down, getting to this place,” he said.
He said the recognition had strengthened his resolve to continue serving the people and improving governance at the grassroots.

He also recalled previous recognitions of his administration, saying the council’s community development strategy had attracted attention beyond the state.
He said the administration would continue to work with development partners, communities and other stakeholders to consolidate its achievements.


The Local Government boss also used the occasion to reaffirm his administration’s support for Governor Mbah’s development agenda and called on the people to continue supporting programmes aimed at improving infrastructure, education, healthcare and human empowerment.


He thanked the organisers of the award, his colleagues, council staff, traditional and community stakeholders, as well as his family for their support.The chairman said the recognition should serve as a motivation to do more for the people rather than an excuse for complacency..

Awards were also presented to the Governor of Enugu state, Dr Peter Mbah, the State Attorney- General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon Osinachi , r Senator representing Enugu North senatorial zone, Ikeje Asogwa, the Deputy Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, South, Dr Ben Nwoye among others.

Governor Peter Mbah, Senator Ikeje Asogwa and Enugu State Attorney-General, Osinachi Nnajieze, were among dignitaries honoured for their contributions to governance and development in Enugu State.

Senator Ikeje Asogwa , represented by his media aide,Samson Ezea dedicated his award to Governor Mbah and the people constituency.
