Nsukwu National Union Women’s Wing donates agricultural inputs to community to boost food production

A Socio-Cultural  women’s group , Nsukwu National Union Women’s Wing, Nsukwu ,Abatete, in Idemili North Local Government  of Anambra state has donated  agricultural inputs to it’s members for planting this 2026 farming season to boost food production in the community.

Speaking while taking delivery  of the inputs on Wednesday 10Th June, 2026 at Oye-Ezigwe secretariat, Nsukwu,the National Chairperson,  Nsukwu National Union Women’s Wing, Dr Maureen Ikpeama said the gesture was to actualise the Union’s vision to bring members of the community back to farm to boost food production in the community.

Ikpeama, who was represented by a member of Agriculture Committee of the Union, Onyinye Okpala, said ,” it  is our administration’s  agricultural project this year. We observed that agriculture is going down in our community. Many people  in the community no longer farm. They buy every food items including vegetables that they can plant around their houses.

She recalled that in her inaugural speech on 30Th December ,2024 when she assumed office, that she disclosed that her administration will focus more on agriculture. 

“Last year, Ndi Iyom Abatete donated palm seedlings to the community. It was shared to all families who declared interest n planting. Our Executives at Nsukwu National Union Women’s Wing agreed that we were going to plant some in the name of the union. We planted Palm seedlings for the Union ln 2025 and brought an Agricultural Expert to sensitize us on different aspects of agriculture during our 2025 December 30Th convention. This year,2026, we  agreed to assist our women to boost agriculture in Nsukwu hence,  the purchase and distribution of the inputs , quality varieties of cassava sticks and corn.

She called on all ward chairpersons to go to Oye-Ezigwe secretariat and collect their wards share and distribute to their members (both home and abroad).

 Ready to farm

According to her, the idea of planting cassava is for members to plant it and on maturity,get multiplied cuttings, replant yearly for sustainability The same goes with the corn.

She called on Nsukwu women who have not registered with the National Union Women’s Wing to do so, noting that Nsukwu National Union Women’s Wing is an umbrella body of all Nsukwu women meetings all over the world . It is a union that was made mandatory for all Nsukwu women to join.”All branches of Nsukwu welfare Association, ADO Nsukwu home branch, Age grades in Nsukwu are under the Nsukwu National Union.

Corn

The National Chairperson thanked members of her Executives, Iyom Osinigwe Ifeoma Gab -Okoye, Uju Obi- Okoye,Eucharia Odimegwu, , Ifeyinwa Nwokolo, Azuka Njelita, Azuka Okoye, Uzoma Nwokolo, Florence Ezekwe, Ifeoma Okeke and the Agriculture committee, Margaret Etokwudo, Onyinye Okpala, Amuche Okoye, Mrs Anyachebelu for making the “back to farm” Nsukwu National Union Women’s Wing campaign a reality.
