In his sustained bid to ensure professionalism and effectiveness in service delivery, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has organized a three-day intensive training on Investigation and Case Management for investigative officers and personnel of the Command.
The training programme was designed to enhance investigative capacity, strengthen prosecutorial processes, and promote professionalism in criminal justice administration among Divisional Police Officers, Divisional Crime Officers, officers of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Inspectors of Crime across all Divisions, and personnel serving in other investigative departments and sections of the Command.

The Police public relations officer of the Command,SP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement made available to Newsmen on Thursday in Enugu, said the Commissioner of Police, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, DCP Hope Okereke Isiani, in his opening remarks, charged the participants to take the training seriously and make the most of the opportunity.
He noted that the training was aimed at equipping police personnel with the requisite knowledge and skills to enhance their effectiveness and proficiency in the discharge of their investigation duties in line with international best practices. He further warned that lapses of any kind in investigation and general case management will no longer be tolerate.
Participants were exposed to topics such as compilation and vetting of case files, investigation report writing, suspects’ rights and confessional statements, lapses in prosecution and plea of justice, as well as the recovery and management of exhibits. Resource persons who handled the sessions were drawn from retired senior police officers and the Enugu State Ministry of Justice. They include Chief (Barr.) G. N. Okereke (DCP Rtd), DCP (Dr.) Olusoji Akinbayo (Rtd), ACP (Barr.) Agbazue Oge (Rtd), CSP (Dr.) Pascal Nwachukwu (Rtd), and Chief Magistrate Egbo Ngozi.
The participants expressed delight at the insights and skills garnered during the training and promised to put the knowledge gained to effective use in the discharge of their duties.
