Osogbo gunfire: Police confirm one dead , vow to arrest suspects

Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 60-year-old man, Tajudeen Yusuf, following a shooting incident in Osogbo on Wednesday, while vowing to arrest those responsible.
The victim, a resident of the Oke-Ayepe area of Osogbo, was allegedly shot at Itaolokan shortly after Governor Ademola Adeleke and his nephew, popular singer David Adeleke, aka Davido, visited the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, at his palace.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, who issued a statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (Election), CP Samuel Etaifo, said the incident followed an attempt by a suspected thug to gain access to Davido during the visit.
According to the police, Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” an ex-convict and alleged member of the Eiye Confraternity, was resisted by members of Davido’s security team when he attempted to gain access to the singer.
The confrontation allegedly attracted other suspected gang members, who temporarily blocked the palace entrance and obstructed movement before the governor’s convoy eventually left safely.
The police said the suspected gang members later left the area but allegedly shot Yusuf at Itaolokan.
The victim was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, after police arrived at the scene, but doctors pronounced him dead.
The command said it had commenced a full-scale investigation and intensified efforts to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
“The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the dastardly act and assures members of the public that the Command will deploy all available resources to apprehend those responsible,” Ojelabi said.
The police urged anyone with useful information to approach the nearest police station or contact the command through its official channels, while advising residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
