Members of the Enugu state Governor’s media team on Wednesday, paid a condolence visit to the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Malachy Agbo, over the death of his mother, Mrs Laurita Nwakaego Agbo , assuring support to his family..
The media team including the Senior Special Assistant ( SSA) to the Governor on Mainstream media, Hon.Dan Nwomeh, SSA on External Relations, Hon. Uche Anichukwu, ,SSA on New Media, Dr Reuben Onyeisi, Executive Secretary of the Enugu state Council for Arts and Culture, Laurence Ani, Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Publication , Prince Josh Ejeh, SA to the Governor on Media, and members of the Government House Press Crew sympathised with the commissioner and his family, describing the loss of a mother as one of life’s most painful experiences.

Speaking during the visit , Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Mainstream Media, Dan Nwomeh, said the entire Government House media family shared in Agbo’s grief.
“There is hardly any pain that compares to losing a beloved mother. Many of us have experienced it and understand what you are going through. We want you to know that you are not alone,” Nwomeh said.
He noted that the late matriarch’s successful upbringing of her son was evident in the affection and respect he enjoys among colleagues.
“For you to be loved and supported in this manner shows the impact she had as a mother. We pray that her soul continues to rest in perfect peace,” he said.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Council of Arts and Culture, Laurence Ani, described Dr Agbo as a dependable friend and colleague whose character reflected the values instilled in him by his mother.

“I have known Malachy for many years and he is more like a brother. Anyone who knows him can attest to his reliability and commitment. Those qualities speak volumes about the kind of woman who raised him,” Ani said..
He urged the commissioner to take comfort in the fact that his mother lived a fulfilled life and witnessed his success
“You were able to care for her just as she cared for you while growing up. She would certainly be proud of the man you have become,” he said.
On his part, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on External Relations, Uche Anichukwu, sympathised with the Commissioner, saying that he understood the pains of the loss of a mother and how it affects the children.

Anichukwu noted that the bond between children and their mothers is so strong that it’s difficult to bear when a mother passed away.
He thanked the media team for the visit , describing the team as the best media team anyone would like to work with.
Consoling Dr Agbo, he assured support of the media team to the Commissioner, and prayed for a successful funeral ceremony.

In their separate remarks, the Senior Assistant to the Governor on New Media , Dr Reuben Onyishi, SA, Research and Publication , Prince Josh Ejeh, TVC reporters, Bamidele Ajayi, and Emmanuel Ajayi described the Commissioner as a nice person. They attributed his nice personality to the good seed his mother planted in him. Sympathising with him, they prayed for the repose soul of Mrs Agbo.

Speaking on behalf of the women , a crew member, Dr Maureen Ikpeama of Newsline Globally consoled Dr Agbo and prayed God to grant the soul of their mother eternal rest. She urged the family to be prayerful , and united.
The delegation assured Agbo of their continued support , prayers as preparations for the burial of his mother progress.

Responding, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Malachy Agbo , expressed appreciation to the media team for their show of solidarity, saying the visit demonstrated the strong bond that exists between him and members of the media community.
“I cannot fully express how grateful I am for this visit and the concern you have shown. It means a lot to me and my family at this difficult time,” he said.
The commissioner recounted his mother’s long battle with asthma, noting that he had cared for her for decades.

According to him, he began looking after her while still a university student and continued throughout his career, ensuring she received medical attention whenever nece
” I have been taking care of her since my university days. Over the years, we did everything possible to keep her alive and comfortable. At different times she was on oxygen for weeks and survived, but this time she was admitted on Thursday and passed away on Friday,” he said.

Dr Agbo said although the family was saddened by her passing, they took solace in the fact that they had done their best to care for her.. He added that she managed asthma for forty years and died at the age of 73.+
“She struggled to live and we struggled to keep her alive for many years. At this point, we believe it was her time. We are happy that we gave her the best care possible,” he said.
He announced August 1,2026 as the date for the funeral ceremony.
