People of Enugu East Senatorial zone of Enugu state on Saturday , in a mega rally tagged ” Ofu obi’ turned out in thousands and endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections, donating a sum of N300 million for campaign.
At the Mega Rally held at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, the people of Nkanu clan declared support for both leaders, citing what they described as visible achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, transportation, technology, and economic development, just as Governor Mbah disclosed plans to commence work at a 660-megawatt coal-fired power plant
Those who spoke at the event commended Governor Mbah for his good works in the state. They also commended President Tinubu’s support for Enugu State through federal appointments, projects, and interventions.

Sen.Nnamani
The former Senate President , Ken Nnamani in his speech said individuals accused of certificate forgery or those removed from federal appointments should not be considered for the governorship. He said Governor Mbah remains the most suitable candidate for the position.
On his part, former Governor of old Anambra State , Senator Jim Nwobodo said Governor Mbah would receive support across party lines because of his performance, adding that Enugu East should complete its two-term tenure in the Government House. He said All Progressives Congress APC will vote for him, members of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP will also vote for him.

Addressing the crowd, Governor Mbah thanked residents for trusting him with leadership in 2023 . He highlighted some projects his administration had executed. They included, Smart Green Schools, Type Two Primary Care Centres, International hospital,roads, water schemes, transport terminals, and the launch of Enugu Air and CNG buses among others.

He also announced plans to commence work on a 660-megawatt coal-fired power plant, which he said, would help provide stable electricity in the state, saying, “A few days from now, we will break ground on a 660MW coal-fired power plant that moves us closer to a future where our people no longer plan their lives around darkness.
“In a literal sense, the lights will go on in Enugu permanently,” he said.
Governor Mbah commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying they had increased states’ capacity to implement development programmes.
“By taking difficult decisions and freeing up resources that had long been trapped in an unsustainable subsidy system, he has given the states greater agency, both in the responsibility and the resources to act,” he said.
He called for patience, and urged the people to promote and protect the gains of the last three years in the state to full maturity,. Governor Mbah also urged them to be mindful of political opportunists and the dangers of poverty of imagination, small politics, provincial thinking, and complacency.
“Several months from now, we will face another general election. This is not the moment to drift. A people who are building something precious must remain alert.
He urged residents to remain united and avoid what he described as “political cowboys” and opportunists ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that his administration would continue to focus on delivering results and consolidating development gains
His words,”Political cowboys will surface. Some will bring noise; some will bring anger; some will bring division. We will bring results. Our answer must be clarity. Our answer must be unity. Our answer must be the work,” he said.

Others who spoke at the event were the Deputy National Chairman (South) of APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye; lawmaker representing Enugu East, Senator Kelvin Chukwu as well members of House of Representative, and State House of Assembly ,Hon. Iloabuchi Aniagu, Commissioner for Children and Gender, Hon. Mrs. Ngozi Enih, ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sydney Edeh, and Prof. Oguejiofor Ujam.

Presentation of Cheque to Gov Mbah
Highlights of the rally were the presentation of an “Ofo ‘staff, a traditional symbol of authority, justice, and endorsement, to Governor Mbah by traditional rulers present and presentation of a cheque of N300 million for purchase of “forms”, and other gifts given to the Governor.
