Uzo-Uwani Council chairman, Ezugwu, swears- in 16 Councillors, Secretary, charges them on effective legislation

Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Barr. Chijioke Ezugwu, has inaugurated the 16 councillors representing the political wards of the council.

He also announced and inaugurated Hon Casmir Ademu as Secretary to the Local Government.

Speaking on Wednesday at Umulokpa, the council headquarters, Ezugwu congratulated the councillors on their victory in the just-concluded local government elections and charged them to ensure adequate representation of their people at the legislative chamber.

He said: “As you kick-start this journey of service, I urge you to constantly bear in mind that you are here as true representatives of your various political wards. You are the voice and hope of your people. Today, I am also inaugurating Barr. Casmir Ademu to continue in his capacity as Secretary of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area. Casmir has been instrumental to the administrative successes we have recorded in Uzo-Uwani in the last two years, and I want him to continue in that capacity.”

The Council Chairman further expressed firm expectation that the councillors would replicate the giant strides of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the federal level and the transformative leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah at the state level in their respective wards, urging them to work within the mandate of the party that brought them to power.

“As we draw closer to another election season, I charge you to go beyond the town centres. Go into the remotest parts of your wards, engage the grassroots, and speak eloquently about the progress and vision of the party that entrusted you with this mandate. You have seen all we have been doing since I came in; sinking of boreholes, road projects, improved security, renovation of the council headquarters and numerous empowerment programmes. So, let your stewardship speak for the APC,” he added.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Hon. Nwabueze Livinus of Nrobo Ward assured that the 10th Assembly would bring unprecedented change to the legislative functions of the council.

He stated that the welfare of the people of Uzo-Uwani remained their watchword, noting that the mandate of the party that brought them to power would be felt in all political wards.

“We, members of the 10th Assembly, promise to discharge our responsibilities without fear or favour and to ensure that Uzo-Uwani experiences a new dawn in its legislative functions. Under our tenure, every ward in Uzo-Uwani will be carried along as we make laws that will usher in positive development,” he said.

In his remarks, the newly sworn-in Secretary, Barr. Ademu, pledged loyalty to the laws and regulations guiding his office and assured that the welfare of the people of Uzo-Uwani would remain his utmost priority.

He thanked the Chairman for finding him worthy of re-appointment as the third-ranking officer in the local government, describing Ezugwu as a leader who is deeply concerned about the security and welfare of his people.

“This is my second term as Secretary to the Local Government. I believe we discharged our duties meritoriously to have warranted the people of Uzo-Uwani to vote for us again. The Council Chairman has sacrificed a lot for the people, especially in the area of security. He has done enough to merit his second term. Uzo-Uwani, which was once bedevilled by insecurity, is today a hub for commerce and agricultural activities. This is a new era, and we shall activate every administrative machinery to catapult Uzo-Uwani to another level,” he said.

The event equally had the election of the following principal officers of the House: Hon. Ogbonna Sunday (Nkpologu Ward) – Deputy Leader; Hon. Achumu Samuel (Ogurugu Ward) – Majority Leader; Hon. Okafor Innocent (Ukpata Ward) – Deputy Majority Leader; Hon. Utazi Augustine Izuchukwu (Nimbo Ward I) – Chief Whip; and Hon. Chimuanya Ikwuwa (Uvuru Ward).
