Enugu Scout camp: Set goals, work to achieve your goals – Dr Jaye charges youths

Special Adviser to the Enugu State Governor, and State Headquarters Commissioner for Medical Affairs , Dr Yomi Jaye, has charged youths to set clear goals, work diligently towards achieving them and develop the resilience and discipline needed to become responsible leaders.

He gave the charge on Saturday, September 5,2026, during the opening ceremony of the maiden edition of Enugu State Scout Camp 2026, organised by the Enugu State Scout Council at St. Patrick’s college , Emene, Enugu.

Addressing the young Scouts, Dr Jaiye , who represented the state Governor,Dr Peter Mbah, urged the Scouters to actively participate in the three-day camping programme, stressing that having a goal without working towards it would not produce results.
“You must have a goal. You must think about your goal and, lastly, you must work on your goal. You can write your goal everywhere, but if you don’t work towards your goal, you won’t achieve it,” he said.

Jaye, who described the participants as leaders of tomorrow, urged them not to take the lessons at the camp for granted, but to contribute actively and build the capacity required to take Enugu State to greater heights.

“I want to express the appreciation of His Excellency and his commitment to the development of young minds. Remember, each one of you is a leader. You are the leaders of tomorrow, not by mouth but by what you are able to do, the capacity, the vigour and the discipline that are needed for this state to attain its glory,” he said.

He encouraged the Scouters to remain resilient in the face of challenges and speak up whenever they became tired, assuring them of the continued support of the Enugu State Government.
The Special Adviser said the camp was the first major camping programme for youths under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, noting that the initiative was designed to bring young people together and equip them with integrity, resilience, discipline and self-development skills.

According to him, about 300 young people were participating in the camp, where they would be exposed to the principles and practices of scouting as well as lessons on goal-setting and personal development.
He said the Governor’s support for the programme was part of his administration’s commitment to developing young minds, stressing that investing in youths was essential to sustaining the state’s infrastructural and developmental achievements.

Jaye said, “You may be seeing the bigger development and infrastructural building, but this is the main key to sustain those buildings in this administration.”
He added that deliberate investment in young people could produce a new generation of political leaders with a different model of leadership.

“If we do this a lot for young people, our future political leaders will be a different model,” he said.

Jaye also disclosed that participants were expected to take part actively in the activities, saying the organisers were looking to identify five outstanding participants.

In an interview, the State Camp Commissioner, Uche Mmadu, thanked Governor Mbah and Dr Jaye for supporting the programme and contributing to its success.
He said the organisers were particularly excited about the camp because it was aimed at building the character and capacity of young people.. He added that the Chief Judge of Enugu state is statutorily, the President of Enugu state Scout Council and the State Governor,a grand patron.

Speaking, the winners of the games, Okorie Ogechukwu, Ezeabor Chigozie and Okafor Mystery thanked Dr Jaiye for the cash gifts. They thanked the state Governor,Dr Peter Mbah for the sponsorship of the camp. They urged people, both young and old to join the Scout,saying that Scout provides opportunity for people to be respectful , discipline and render helping hands to the needy. They also thanked their leaders for their commitment and contribution to their development., which according to them ,will make them better people and help them to contribute to the development of the society.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of a certificate to Jaiye, a bonfire and presentation of cash gifts to winners of games.
The three-day camp, which commenced on September 3, is expected to end on September 6, 2026.
