Plateau govt imposes curfew following attack on Community

Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North following a deadly attack in the Angwan Rukuba area which has left several residents dead and others injured.

The attack occurred in Gari Ya Waye community, Angwan Rukuba, where gunmen reportedly stormed the area on motorcycles and opened fire on residents. Eyewitnesses said the attackers targeted passersby and roadside traders, triggering panic across the community.


An influencer, Very Dark man , in the video he shared counted 25 dead bodies , including pregnant women killed in the attack while several others sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.


Reacting , the state Governor , Caleb Mutfwang condemned the killings, describing it as “barbaric and unprovoked.” . He said security agencies had been mobilised to apprehend the perpetrators and forestall further attacks.


Following the incident, some youths staged protests by blocking roads in the area but were later dispersed by security operatives. Residents have also renewed calls for stricter enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycles, which they allege are frequently used by attackers.


The latest violence underscores a resurgence of insecurity in Plateau State. In recent months, communities across the state have witnessed repeated attacks, kidnappings and killings.

The state government said the measure became necessary to restore calm after what it described as a “tragic security incident.”

Earlier in 2026, several security operatives were reportedly killed in an ambush in Kanam Local Government Area, while coordinated attacks in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi in 2025 left over 100 people dead.
