Retired Federal Permanent Secretary, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa (Odalije) and other sons and daughters of Enugu state , recently, joined the people of Awgu in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu state to celebrate the annual Ike Ji Awgu (New Yam Festival), describing the cultural event as a symbol of unity, resilience and the rich heritage of the people.
Ohaa, who was warmly received by HRH Igwe Kingsley Okeke, joined traditional rulers, community leaders, politicians and indigenes of Awgu at the colourful celebration, which showcased the community’s enduring traditions and cultural identity.
He was accompanied by party officials, Hon. Barr. Nebo Chukwujekwu Emmanuel, Hon. Uche Eneh, Dr. John Nwokeabia, Hon. Kingsley Eneh, several candidates and other politicians, alongside numerous supporters.
Speaking at the festival, Ohaa commended the people of Awgu for preserving their cultural heritage and using the annual celebration to strengthen unity and communal bonds.
He said culture remained a critical pillar of community development, social cohesion and collective identity, noting that festivals such as Ike Ji provide opportunities for people to reconnect with their roots and promote shared values.
Ohaa , who is a governor candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, expressed appreciation to the people of Awgu and Igwe Kingsley Okeke for the warm reception, describing Ike Ji Awgu as a reflection of the strength, resilience and communal spirit of the people.
