Governor of Enugu State , Dr Peter Mbah, has presented his manifesto scorecard , reaffirming commitment to transforming the state into a $30 billion economy, saying, his administration’s progress against its 2023 manifesto promises has earned the confidence of the people of the state.

The governor , who spoke on Thursday , October 29,2026, at the Peter Mbah Law Auditorium, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, during the presentation of his manifesto scorecard, with the Theme, “Our Commitment to Ndi Enugu: The Journey So Far,” challenged residents to look beyond the achievements recorded so far and join hands with his government to realise the state’s full economic potential.
Mbah said the exercise was in fulfilment of the Citizens’ Charter, established through Executive Order 001, which he signed after his inauguration on May 29, 2023.

Reflecting on the circumstances under which his administration assumed office, the governor said the state was struggling with insecurity, disrupted commercial activities, poor roads, inadequate educational and healthcare facilities, and a gradual loss of its regional economic significance.
“There was a time when Monday was no longer an ordinary working day in Enugu. Shops remained closed. Roads were deserted. Parents were afraid to send their children to school. People who depended on their daily earnings had to surrender an entire day’s income because others had decided they should remain indoors. That was the reality we inherited,” he said.
He added that businesses were looking elsewhere, major events were moving to other cities, public services had deteriorated, and the airport had barely two incoming flights a day.
Against that background, Mbah said restoring security and normal economic activities had provided the foundation for the administration’s broader development agenda.

“Today, people are going about their businesses with a freedom that had been denied them for far too long. A trader can plan a full working week. Children can attend school. Businesses can receive customers, move goods and keep their employees working. That security gave us a foundation upon which other changes could begin,” he said .
The governor outlined progress across key sectors, including infrastructure, education ,, healthcare, agriculture, tourism and transportation,

He told the gathering that his administration built 1,500 Kms roads, installed asphalt plant, procured CNG buses with free WiFi, air condition, constructed 5 terminals and another 5 under construction, procured air crafts , Enugu air which has started international operations to Cameroun and would start flying to the United Kingdom ( UK) by 1st December,2026, established 268 Smart Green schools across the 260 political wards in the state, constructed 260 Primary Healthcare Centres in 260 political wards, invested hugely in agricultural and Agro- Industrialization development , tourism , youth empowerment among others.

He said the interventions were directed at fulfilling his campaign pledge to eradicate poverty and grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
He cautioned against treating the gains recorded so far as the ultimate destination, stressing that the state’s development ambitions demanded sustained commitment, greater participation and a willingness to confront the challenges that remained.
“The changes are visible, and the scale of our ambition is becoming clearer. We should take pride in what has been achieved, while recognising how much remains to be done,” he said.
In a call for broader public participation, governor Mbah urged residents to channel their ideas, skills, enterprise and experience to the state’s development, stressing that building a prosperous society could not be the responsibility of government alone.
He encouraged citizens to take an active interest in their communities, identify pressing needs and work towards practical solutions that would improve the lives of residents.
“This is one moment in the long history of Enugu. This is a moment of extraordinary possibility for our people and I believe this is the moment we must seize. The work we have begun needs the commitment of all of us,” he said.
The governor added that the ultimate measure of his administration’s efforts should be the creation of stronger institutions, a more productive economy, better opportunities for children and communities capable of taking pride in their collective achievements.
“We have the opportunity to leave something of lasting value to those who come after us: a state with stronger institutions, a more productive economy, better opportunities for its children and communities whose people can take pride in what they have achieved together. That is the Enugu I want us to build,” he said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Rev Fr Prof. Christian Anieke, commended Mbah for returning to the institution to account for his stewardship, recalling that the governor had presented his manifesto at the same venue before the 2023 election.
