….As Nwoye declares Gov Mbah’s 2027 campaign open
Governor of Enugu state, Dr Peter Mbah on Wednesday , September 9,2026 , unveiled a compendium documenting more than 10,000 achievements recorded by his administration since assumption of office in May 29, 2023, saying the publication was a fulfilment of his Citizens’ Charter signed on assumption of office , in which he promised to regularly give account on use of public resources.
Speaking at the unveiling of the compendium held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, Governor Mbah, who was represented by the Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, presented his administration’s developmental projects in infrastructure, education, healthcare, transportation , urban development, economic diversification among others.
The compendium, titled “A Thousand and One Reasons Why Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Should be Re-elected as Governor of Enugu State,” documents more than 1,521 kilometres of constructed and reconstructed roads, over 7,000 classrooms, 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, Enugu Air, the New Enugu Smart City and the revival of moribund government assets, among other projects and reforms.
The Deputy Governor, recalled that immediately after Mbah assumed office on May 29, 2023, the governor signed the Citizens’ Charter, promising that the people would periodically receive an account of how their resources were being utilised.

“What we are here to do today is a fulfilment of the Citizens’ Charter. The Citizens’ Charter requires us to explain periodically and regularly what we have done with the resources that we hold for the people,” Ossai said
He stressed that the compendium represented only part of what the administration had accomplished, as several projects remained ongoing.
“It’s a fraction of it,” he said.
According to the Deputy Governor, the administration’s objective was not merely to make Enugu compete with other states in Nigeria but to transform the state into an economy capable of competing globally.
He said investments in public healthcare, Smart Green Schools and the free school-feeding programme were targeted at improving the lives of residents, while other interventions were aimed at creating jobs, diversifying the economy and positioning Enugu for sustainable growth.
Ossai also acknowledged that some government decisions might have caused discomfort to residents, but said the administration’s intentions were to put the state on the path of greatness.
“What you must take home with you is that our intentions are noble. What we are trying to do is place Enugu on the path of greatness,” he said.
Speaking, the All Progressives Congress, APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Dr Ben Nwoye, said the unveiling of the compendium had effectively marked the commencement of Mbah’s 2027 re-election campaign.
“I am privileged to announce that today is the beginning of the campaign for our dear governor,” Nwoye said.
He urged residents who wanted Mbah to return for a second term to vote for the APC, stressing that the governor’s name would not appear on the ballot.
“If you want Peter Mbah to return, you have to vote for APC,” he said.
Nwoye challenged opposition candidates to match the achievements of the Mbah administration, urging voters to examine the records of those seeking to govern the state.
He particularly appealed for continuity, recalling that former governors Chimaroke Nnamani, Sullivan Chime and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi each served two terms.
“Chimaroke did twice, Sullivan did twice, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi did twice. So, why would the local government not do twice?” he asked.
He also commended members of the Mbah administration, including the Deputy Governor, SSG, Chief of Staff, commissioners and other officials, describing them as the people behind the achievements documented in the compendium.
In his welcome address, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the Mbah administration was deliberately transforming Enugu through a clear vision and philosophy of governance.
He listed interventions in education, healthcare, infrastructure, economic diversification, youth empowerment, women development, technology, skills acquisition, social protection, tourism, environmental sustainability and community development, urging people to assess the state government ‘s governance objectively.
He highlighted the Smart Green Schools, Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres across the political wards, international hospital, employment initiatives and measures aimed at diversifying the state economy.
The SSG also pointed to reforms in the state’s fiscal architecture, including revenue automation, reforms at the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service, improved financial management, the Treasury Single Account, enterprise resource planning and institutional restructuring.
“Behind every project is a community; behind every policy is a citizen; and behind every statistic is a human being whose life government seeks to improve,” Onyia said.
He stressed that sustainable development required strong institutions and systems capable of sustaining government projects and programmes.
In his remarks,, the Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Samuel Asadu, commended Mbah for his good governance and developmental strides in the state.
Asadu , who is the traditional ruler of Edem- Ani, urged residents to support the governor’s continuity, stressing that performance should take precedence over political party considerations.
“We have never had it so good. It is not about party. But let us give the job to those who understand the job,” he said.
He noted that Mbah’s ambition of moving the Enugu economy towards a $30 billion economy was already being pursued through the administration’s programmes.,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of House members, the Speaker, Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu, said the Enugu state House of Assembly had supported the administration through effective lawmaking.
He described the compendium as providing “one thousand and one reasons” why the people of Enugu should support Mbah’s return in 2027.
Representing members of the National Assembly, Hon. Mark Obetta said the compendium was significant because it captured the physical realities of the transformation taking place across the state.
He said the achievements were not limited to social media or newspaper reports but were visible and being experienced by residents.
Obetta commended the Deputy Governor, members of the State Executive Council, Chief of Staff and other officials for working with Mbah to deliver the projects and reforms.
He also called for continued support for Mbah, members of the National Assembly and President Bola Tinubu.
In his speech, chairman of APC , Enugu State chapter , Dr Martin Chukwuwike, described the compendium as a documentary record of achievements already visible to residents.
He said the compendium would serve as a major campaign tool ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing confidence in the party’s electoral strength in the state.
Chukwuwike also cited Enugu’s political tradition of governors serving two terms, recalling the administrations of Nnamani, Chime and Ugwuanyi.
On his part, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Victor Udeh, described the compendium as an evidence-based publication and a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to accountability.
Speaking with newsmen, the Convener, Dr Collins Ogbu, described Mbah as an “eloquent testimony” to what purposeful governance and development could achieve within about four years.
Ogbu highlighted the administration’s interventions in education, healthcare, infrastructure and other critical sectors, particularly the Smart Green Schools and primary healthcare centres, saying the projects were already generating multiplier effects across the state.
He said the transformation could also be seen in the growth of the state’s economic base.
According to him, Enugu’s economic performance, which stood at about N26 billion in 2022, rose to about N36 billion by mid-2023 and N181 billion in 2024.
He said the figure further rose to about N460 billion in the 2025 fiscal year, while the projection for 2026 was about N871 billion.
“We are seeing the multiplier effect in the critical sectors and core components of government that can help the course of human capital development,” Ogbu said.
He noted that the investments in education, healthcare and infrastructure were not isolated projects, but interventions capable of stimulating economic activities, creating opportunities and improving the productive capacity of the people.
He maintained that the achievements recorded so far provided evidence of what could be accomplished when government resources were deployed strategically to areas with direct impact on the people.
The event attracted political leaders, traditional and religious leaders, lawmakers, members of the State Executive Council, party stakeholders, captains of industry, professionals, public servants , party supporter among others..
