Enugu State Governor , Dr Peter Mbah,has urged supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu North senatorial zone to embark on aggressive door-to-door campaign for Ikeje Asogwa, the party ‘s candidate in the June 20Th Enugu North By- election , highlighting his administration’s achievements across the state.

He made the call on Wednesday, while addressing a massive crowd at the grand finale of the APC campaign rally ahead the by-election.
Governor Mbah stated that the people of Enugu North had every reason to vote overwhelmingly for the party, citing landmark investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure, transportation and industrial development.

Urging Supporters to vote for APC, he said,
“Go and thumbprint the ballots. When they ask what APC has done for you, tell them this administration broke the 65-year jinx and produced your son as Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Tell them hundreds of your sons and daughters have been employed in UNN”.
He listed ongoing projects in the zone, including the construction of 102 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, 102 Smart Green Schools, the dualisation of the Abakpa-Penoks-Ugwogo Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road, and the forthcoming commissioning of the Ohebedim Aluminium Factory in October.
He also cited the commencement of major road projects linking communities across Uzo-Uwani, Igbo-Etiti, Nsukka and Igboeze areas.
“Do not go back home and sleep. As you leave here, go door-to-door, visit families, communities, homes and kindreds and tell them where to vote,” he charged party faithful.,’ he said.

The governor emphasized that the by-election would serve as a crucial test of the APC’s growing popularity in Enugu North.
“I can sense victory already in the air. But the work is not done yet. Nothing short of an overwhelming victory is acceptable,” he said
The by-election is being conducted to fill the vacant Senate seat following the death of Senator Okey Ezea in November 2025.

In his speech, the Deputy Governor, Ifeanyi Ossai disclosed that Governor Mbah had already listed priority areas for the APC candidate to pursue at the Senate if elected.
“In my presence, the governor instructed him to ensure all roads in Enugu North are captured in the federal budget. He also emphasized the need to increase funding for UNN and the Federal Polytechnic, Ohodo,” Ossai said.
He dismissed rumours suggesting former Governor , Rt. Hon Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was backing another candidate, saying the former governor had publicly refuted such claims

Speaking shortly after his presentation to Party supporters, APC senatorial By-election candidate, Ikeje Asogwa thanked party leaders , supporters and the people of Enugu North for upholding equity , fairness and justice by ensuring the senatorial seat remained in Igboeze South Local Government Area..He called for a minute’s silence in honour of the late senator of the zone, Okey Ezea.

Asogwa ,who assured quality representation, pledged not to disappoint the people of the zone if elected, saying,
“I have promised my people that I can never disappoint. What the people have seen before now is only the beginning. Our business is human empowerment,” he stated, noting that his track record in community development and youth empowerment would guide his representation at the National Assembly.

Speaking at the event, the former Governor of Enugu state, Rt. Hon. Ambassador Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi called on the people of Enugu North zone to support Asogwa, saying that he remained the best option for effective representation.
“Nothing other than voting massively for APC and Chief Ejike Asogwa can guarantee quality representation for Enugu North,” Ugwuanyi said.

Others who spoke at the rally, included the APC Enugu state chairman, Deputy National Chairman of APC, Dr Ben Nwonye, Dr Martin Chukwunweike, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, Chairman, Igboeze South local government Area , Ferdinand Ukwueze, Governor Mbah’s aide,. Peter Okonkwo, Commissioner for Special Duties,Mike Ajogwu, among others.
They commended Governor Mbah for his good works in the state describing Ikeje Asogwa as the most qualified candidate for the seat.

The Speakers added that Governor Mbah’s performance in office had significantly boosted APC’s popularity across Enugu State and expressed confidence that the party would secure victory in Saturday’s by-election and build momentum for the 2027 general elections.
Some party chieftains at the rally were Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Dr. Kingsley Udeh (SAN), Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council Igwe Samuel Asadu, Hon. National Assembly members from the zone among others.
