Gunmen behead 30-year-old man in Plateau community

Gunmen have reportedly beheaded a 30-year-old man, identified as Elisha Saku, in an attack on Riwhie-Chwo community, Nzharuvo, in Miango District of Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.


Residents said the assailants stormed the area around 10 p.m. on Thursday, throwing the community into panic as people fled for safety.
The killing was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Irigwe Youth Mon act as brutal and condemned the contin beued violence in the area.


According to the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Joseph Yonkpa, the victim, Elisha Abbas Saku, was ambushed and beheaded during the attack


“On the night of April 16, 2026, gunmen ambushed and beheaded Mr Elisha Abbas Saku, 30, at Riwhie-Chwo, Nzharuvo, Miango District of Bassa LGA,” the statement read.
The group expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for comfort for the Irigwe people.
Efforts to get a response from the spokesperson of the state police command, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks in Bassa LGA and other parts of Plateau, where farming communities have repeatedly come under assault by armed groups, raising fresh concerns over security in the region.
