Prominent political figures in Enugu state including former Senate President, Ken Nnamani and former Governor of Old Anambra state, Jim Nwobodo, alongside the Awkunanaw clan, have endorsed Governor Peter Mbah for a second term in 2027 elections, extolling his development strides and governance reforms across Enugu State.

The endorsement came during a mega rally held at Awkunanaw Civic Centre in Akegbe-Ugwu, drawing stakeholders from communities across Enugu South and Nkanu West Local Government Areas.
Former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, called for unity among the people, stressing that the decision to support Mbah was collective and based on performance.

Similarly, former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Rural Development, Okey Ogbodo, described the governor as “a gift to Ndi Enugu,” noting that his leadership had redefined governance in the state.

In an address on behalf of the clan, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said Mbah had, within three years, repositioned Enugu as a model of purposeful and people-oriented governance.
According to Onyia, the administration had “redesigned the architecture of governance, injected unprecedented efficiency into public service, and restored hope that good governance is possible.”

“In three years, Enugu has become a shining model of result-oriented and people-focused leadership,” Prof. Chidiebere Onyia said.

The rally also featured goodwill messages from political stakeholders, including federal and state lawmakers, who echoed support for the governor’s second-term ambition.
Responding, Governor Mbah described the endorsement as overwhelming and unprecedented, urging the people to remain united and resist divisive tendencies as the 2027 elections approach.
He emphasised the need for equity, insisting that the Enugu East Senatorial Zone should complete its second tenure in office.
