Train details injured many passengers

Several passengers were injured on Monday morning after a train operating on the busy Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor derailed, causing panic and a temporary disruption of services along the route.

The passenger train, travelling from Kaduna to Abuja, derailed along the rail line connecting the Federal Capital Territory with Kaduna State.
The source at the Nigerian Railway Corporation, confirmed that the train was forced to halt midway.
Passengers onboard said the train stopped after a loud bang was heard, which threw several passengers off their seats, causing confusion and injuries inside the coaches.

Eyewitness accounts suggested that the Abuja-bound train may have collided with another train on the corridor, forcing authorities to suspend operations temporarily while the situation was assessed.

Several passengers reportedly sustained cuts and bruises after being flung against seats and metal fittings inside the compartments.

One of the passengers, Sada Malumfashi, who shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), said the incident caused widespread panic among those onboard.
He wrote that passengers were caught off guard when the train suddenly jolted to a halt.
“We heard a loud bang and the train jolted to a stop, flinging people across. Passengers got hit, and most are bleeding and severely injured,” he said.

He added that the train remained stationary for about 30 minutes before it slowly resumed movement toward Kubwa.
He also complained that passengers received no immediate communication from railway authorities regarding the incident.

Spokesperson of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Callistus Unyimadu, confirmed the incident. He said an official statement would be released.
