EEDC announces emergency power rationing in parts of South-East

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).has announced an emergency load management in Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states , which will lead to disruptions in electricity supply in the areas .

In a statement issued to Newsmen on Thursday in Enugu by the Group Head, Corporate Communications ,Emeka Ezeh, the EEDC explained that the National Control Centre (NCC), Oshogbo, had directed the company to regulate supply pending the resolution of the fault.

The company said the development was necessitated by a fault on the Mando–Shiroro Transmission Line, which has affected power allocation to parts of its network in the South-East.

According to Ezeh, EEDC has been advised to maintain only 44 megawatts on the Onitsha/New Haven 330kV line, a situation that affects Awada, Agu-Awka, Nibo, New Haven, Nkalagu and Abakaliki Transmission Stations.
He added that 10 megawatts and 11 megawatts are currently being maintained on the Ugwuaji and Apir Transmission Stations respectively.
“As a result of this development, customers served by our subsidiary companies – MainPower in Enugu State, FirstPower in Anambra State and EastLand in Ebonyi State – will experience load management until normal supply is restored,” Ezeh stated.
The company apologised to customers for the inconvenience and appealed for patience and understanding, assuring that relevant stakeholders are working to clear the fault and restore stable electricity supply to the affected areas.
The announcement comes amid ongoing concerns by residents and businesses in the region over inconsistent power supply, with many hoping for a swift resolution to prevent further disruption of economic and social activities.
