Rotary International Club has donated free medical equipment to State University of Medical and Applied Sciences SUMAS Igbo-Eno, Nsukka, Enugu state.. The Club in collaboration with Enugu State Government is currently on a Medical Mission to provide free critical surgical services to citizens of Enugu State over the next two weeks.

Presenting the equipment to the Governor of Enugu state, Dr. Peter Mbah at the Mother and Child hospital,SUMAS on Saturday, the District Rotary Foundation chairman District 9127,Nigeria, Dr. Elvis Chukwu said Sixteen Surgeons from India and many Nigerian Medical Consultants in various areas would be in SUMAS , to offer free medical care for two weeks., starting from 17Th January to 30th January, 2026.
He urged those who are in need of such surgeries to avail themselves of the opportunity and come for treatment. He also urged them to carry the message back to their various locations for the benefit of those in need.
Dr .Chukwu said the medical equipment were worth USD109 and after the two weeks free medical services, the team will leave all the equipment and drugs for SUMAS. He added that they started the medical mission in 1998 and the visit to SUMAS is the third time they’re coming for a free medical mission to Enugu state.
Speaking, the Team Leader, IPDG. RTN. Dr. Santhosh Sreedhar, a Dental Surgeon and Consultant Periodontist ,said the services included General Surgery, Orthopaedic surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dental Care, Ophthalmology and Eye Surgery as well as Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery among others.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the state Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, , the Commissioner for Health, Prof Dr. George Ugwu , thanked the Rotary International club for the gesture.
He said the team had held two medical missions in the state ( at Parklane) and their visit to SUMAS speaks to the vision and interest Governor Mbah has for the people of Enugu North senatorial zone.
He urged people with health challenges to avail themselves of the opportunity and come for free treatment.
Over one hundred patients registered on Saturday and received medical attention.
