Nigeria’s  Defence minister resigned  on health grounds- Presidency

Presidency has revealed that the Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru, resigned from his appointment due to health reasons.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that in a statement made available to Newsmen on Monday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

He said Badaru, in a letter dated December 1 to President Bola Tinubu, told the president he was stepping down “on health grounds.”

The statement added that Tinubu has accepted the resignation and thanked him “for his services to the nation.”

Tinubu is expected to inform the Senate of Badaru’s replacement later this week.

Badaru, 63, served as a two-term governor of Jigawa state from 2015 to 2023 and was appointed defence minister on August 21, 2023.

His resignation comes a few days after Tinubu declared a national security emergency over the increasing rate of insecurity in the country.
