Int’l Lions Club: Pastor Umoh urges members to always engage in humanitarian services

District Governor,404A2 International Lions Club, Pastor Ezekiel Umoh,has called on members of Lions Club to always embark on humanitarian services like health care projects, educational projects, provision of food to the less privileged or displaced persons and youth empowerment.

Speaking at the opening ceremony for the 50th Cabinet Meeting of 404A2 International Lions Club hosted by Region 9 in Enugu, Pastor Umoh stressed that the major aim of Lions Club was to serve humanity and appealed to members to always render selfless service to mankind.
He noted that the way to achieve this noble goal was for members to ensure that they pay their monthly dues religiously and make free will donations.


“No doubt, our Club needs money to carry out its mandatory duties, hence the issue of dues is taken seriously and that is why we also ask members at various Regions and clusters to make sure their members are up to date in payment of dues”, the District Governor explained.

During the Training Session, the Past District Governor, Lion Sam Ekpuk taught members on how to ensure the survival of Lion Clubs, noting that there was profound need for membership drive and creation of awareness of the Club and its activities to the public.

According to him, “people of like minds may be looking for associations or Clubs to identify with in execution of humanitarian services, hence, the need for awareness creation.”

Earlier in the day, members of the Club who came from areas in the District, trooped to Micheal Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu for 1.5 million awareness drive and Prince Nwosa, leader mission 1.5, stressed on the need to strengthen the Club.
They attracted passerby, some of who came to the arena where flyers on the club’s activities,visions and missions were distributed.

In her speech, the Region 9 Chairperson, Lion Chioma Vivian Agubusim, expressed gratitude to the District 404A2 International Lions Club for choosing Region 9, particularly, Enugu for the 50th Cabinet Meeting, noting that the figure of 50 was symbolic with golden.

Lion Agubusim, called on visiting members to enjoy the serene nature of Enugu and the entire hospitality of the coal city.

Preceding the Cabinet Meeting was fun-filled Hospitality Night where members of Region 9 showcased the culture,tourism and carpet reception the Enugu people are noted with.
There were exhibition of traditional gong music popularly known as “Ogene sound music”,music of different tunes by the Disc Jockey and dancing displays by members who were thrilled, excited and highly entertained.

Of course, favorite delicacy Enugu is noted for, Okpa was served together with original palm wine.

Also, the region 9 project – “Arise let’s dress a hospital bed” was carried out at the National psychiatric hospital, Enugu by the past district governor, Mr Nsikan Bassey, district secretary lion Sarah Walter, Region 9 Chairperson, lion Vivian Agubosim, past region 9 chairperson, lion Ebis Club presidents of Enugu and Owerri club and members of the region 9.

Receiving members of Lions international club to her office, the Chief medical director, Dr Ngozi Unaogu expressed the management’s appreciation to the club, especially the region 9/ Enugu metropolitan club for partnering with the them during the world Mental day at Enugu Correctional facility and the donation of region 9 bedsheets .
She stated that the hospital needed help in the area of water supply and appealled to the club to help out by digging borehole within the hospital.
