Lion Club Int’l donates educational materials to Anambra secondary school students

The Lions Clubs International, District 404A2 Nigeria, Region 11, has donated writing materials to students of Community Secondary School, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, as part of its education and youth empowerment programme for the 2026/2027 Lions year.

The outreach, held on September 25, 2026, was themed Educate, Inspire, Empower Lives and was aimed at promoting literacy, encouraging students and supporting their educational development.

Speaking during the event, the Region 11 Chairperson, Lion Kenneth Nnmani, said the initiative reflected the humanitarian values of the Lions Club, which was established to support vulnerable people and improve lives through service.

Nnmani explained that literacy and education remained important areas of the organisation’s humanitarian activities, adding that the visit was organised to encourage students to embrace reading and writing as essential tools for personal and academic development.

He said the outreach was initially planned to coincide with World Literacy Day on September 18 but was postponed to allow students to resume school.

The Zone 11A Chairperson, Lion Agbo Emmanuel, said the programme was part of the club’s commitment to providing educational support and encouraging students to feel remembered and valued.

Emmanuel explained that Region 11 covers Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states, noting that similar literacy activities were expected to take place across the region.

The immediate past Region 9 Chairperson, Lion Vivian Agubosim said the creation of Regions 10 and 11 followed the growth and expansion of the Lions Club in the South East.

She encouraged members to sustain the organisation’s humanitarian legacy and called on more people to join the club, stressing that collective service could help reach more communities.

The President of Awka Smithland Lions Club, Lion Jane Diabor, also highlighted the importance of service to humanity and encouraged residents to support the organisation’s activities.

Appreciating the gesture, some of the students, Faith Isiekwe and Emmanuel Chisom, thanked the Lions Club for the writing materials and promised to put them to good use in their academic pursuits.

The Principal of Community Secondary School, Okpuno, Eucharia Osibe, expressed gratitude to the organisation for the support, describing the visit as a welcome gesture that would encourage the students in their studies.
