“We did more than expected’ — Igbō-Eze North Local Govt chairman highlights two years of projects

Executive Chairman of Igbō-Eze North Local Government Area, Enugu state, Hon. Michael Uche Ogala, says his administration exceeded its expectations in two years, saying the Local Government ‘s annual budgets were met and there was increased spending on projects, construction of 20 boreholes and improved security across the council.

He disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday, September 2026. Ogala said the council initially budgeted about N6 billion but ended up spending about N7 billion, adding that the increase reflected the administration’s commitment to development.

“Our two years in office is characterised by work, work, work. Some of the things we feel we should have done better, I think we did them best,” he said.
According to him, the council had initially planned to drill only two or three boreholes in some communities, but with the support of Governor Peter Mbah, it was able to drill 20 boreholes.
Ogala also highlighted security as another major achievement of his administration, noting that a military base had been established in Aguibeje while a community-based strike force was deployed to protect communities across the local government area.

The chairman attributed the achievements of his administration to the support received from Governor Mbah, whom he thanked for giving him the opportunity to serve and for sustaining his administration throughout its tenure.
“His Excellency has always been our great support. He supplies to us, and he makes everything sufficient. If we have been able to do anything, it is because we are standing on his shoulders,” he said.

On the forthcoming local government election, Ogala expressed confidence in the ruling party’s chances, saying the election would be free, fair and credible.
He said the developmental achievements of the Mbah administration had strengthened support for the government at the grassroots, arguing that opposition parties would find it difficult to defeat the ruling party in the council election.
The chairman urged residents to remain actively involved in the electoral process, recalling that his administration had reached communities across the council during the voters’ registration exercise.

He said the administration had visited even the most remote communities, including Ileje and Ijekwe, adding that the engagements had helped to deepen grassroots awareness of governance

“Governance is not on papers only. We have been to the most remote parts of Igbō-Eze North, and the responses we get show that there is grassroots reorientation about what governance is all about,” Ogala said.
He expressed confidence that the people of Igbō-Eze North would continue to support Governor Mbah ahead of the 2027 elections.
