Benue State Police Command has arrested a 500-level student of Fr Moses Adasu University, formerly Benue State University, over the alleged assault of a fellow student with hot water. mixed with salt and pepper.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026, following a disagreement between the two female students who were said to have been living together.
The command’s public relations officer, DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed the incident to Newsmen on Saturday, saying the police had commenced an investigation to determine what triggered the altercation.
Aondongu said preliminary information indicated that the suspect allegedly prepared hot water, mixed it with salt and pepper, and poured the substance on the victim before locking her inside the room.
He said the victim was eventually discovered by other people, who intervened and rescued her from the room before taking her to a hospital for medical attention.
“The suspect was arrested, while the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. We are still investigating to establish what led to the disagreement,” the police spokesperson said.
The police public relations officer added that he had yet to obtain the full details of the dispute but confirmed that both women were students of the university.
However, findings revealed that the victim, identified as Rose, was a 200-level Political Science student, while the suspect was identified as Felicia.
The Students’ Union President, Akighirga Vitalis, who visited the victim at the hospital alongside other union officials, said Rose narrated that a disagreement between her and Felicia had escalated into the alleged attack.
Vitalis said the two students had previously lived together but their relationship reportedly deteriorated following disagreements over personal issues.
Expressing concern over the condition of the victim, the union president condemned the alleged assault, describing it as a serious violation of another student’s safety and well-being.
“We are deeply concerned about this incident. The Students’ Union will follow this matter closely until justice prevails,” Vitalis said.
He assured students that the union would work with the relevant authorities and monitor both the police investigation and any disciplinary proceedings that might be instituted by the university.
Vitalis added that where the allegation against Felicia was established through due process, the union would support the imposition of appropriate sanctions under the institution’s regulations.
“The Students’ Union will not condone violence or any conduct capable of endangering the life of another student,” he stated.
