Residents and other people around a ward collation centre in Osogbo, Osun State, fled for safety on Saturday night following sporadic gunshots reportedly fired by security personnel.
The incident occurred at the premises of Union Baptist Primary School, venue of the Ataoja D Ward 4 collation centre, while the collation of results from the Osun governorship election was ongoing.
The gunshots were heard between 9:15pm and 9:30pm, with security personnel reportedly firing several shots into the air. Canisters were also released within the premises.
The shooting lasted for more than 15 minutes, causing panic as people around the collation centre ran for cover.
The reason for the shooting was not immediately known as of the time of filing this report.
The incident reportedly, occurred amid the ongoing collation of results from different centres across Osun State.
