36Th combined Convocation : 120 students bag First Class as UNIPORT graduates 8,156

University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) will award first-class degrees to 120 students during its 36th Combined Convocation Ceremony, with a total of 8,156 graduates set to receive various academic qualifications, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Owunari Georgewill has announced.

I’m a statement in Port Harcourt on Monday, Georgewill disclosed that the graduating class comprises 5,822 first-degree recipients, 510 postgraduate diploma holders, 1,386 master’s degree graduates and 438 doctoral degree recipients.
He described the convocation as one of the institution’s most important academic traditions, celebrating academic excellence and honouring deserving graduands.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the 120 first-class graduates reflect the university’s sustained commitment to academic excellence and quality education.
The convocation activities, which commenced on May 29 with a Jumat prayer and continued with a thanksgiving service on May 31, will feature several events, including a tree-planting ceremony by the best graduating student, a red-carpet and command performance, class day activities and a Vice-Chancellor’s dinner for first-class and distinction graduates.
Other highlights include an Alumni Day Research Fair and Exhibitions, as well as a fireside chat with entrepreneur and Future Africa founding partner, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji.
The main convocation ceremony will hold on June 5 with the award of first degrees, postgraduate diplomas and master’s degrees, while the convocation lecture and conferment of PhD degrees will take place on June 6.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is expected to deliver the 36th Convocation Lecture.
Georgewill reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation and societal development, noting that UNIPORT remains focused on advancing knowledge and driving positive transformation.
He also commended the Federal and Rivers State governments for their support of the institution over its 51 years of existence.
