Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 Ambassadors-designate and high commissioners to different countries and international organisations across the world.

This was announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. He said the list comprises 34 non-career political appointees and 31 career diplomats.

Among the prominent appointments, former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has been posted as Nigeria’s ambassador to Germany, while former presidential aide Reno Omokri will represent Nigeria in Mexico.

Former Enugu State governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to Greece, former Abia State governor Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, and former Minister of Health Isaac Adewole to Canada.
Former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff Abdulrahman Dambazau has been assigned to China, while businessman and senator Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

In the list, Senator Ita Enang was posted to South Africa, while Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas will represent Nigeria in the Philippines. Senator Grace Bent is expected to serve in Togo.

According to the presidency, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received diplomatic approval, known as agrément, from the United Kingdom and France for two of the nominees. Requests for approval have also been sent to the remaining host countries.

The President has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to begin an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate before they proceed to their respective countries.

The Senate had earlier confirmed all the nominees in December 2025 after screening them through its Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Nigeria currently maintains diplomatic missions in more than 100 countries worldwide, including embassies, high commissions and consulates that promote the country’s political, economic and cultural interests abroad.

The latest postings mark the most extensive ambassadorial deployment since the exercise carried out under former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017.
Once the host countries grant formal diplomatic approval, the ambassadors are expected to assume their duties in their respective missions.
