Rivers state Assembly moves to impeach Fubara, alleges gross misconduct

 Rivers State House of Assembly has  again commenced impeachment proceedings against the state Governor , Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu, alleging gross misconduct.

At a plenary session presided over by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, Thursday, 8Th January,2026, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, read a notice of allegations citing gross misconduct against Governor Fubara.

The notice, endorsed by 26 lawmakers, accused the governor of actions allegedly in breach of the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaker Amaewhule announced that the impeachment notice would be served on the governor within seven days, in line with constitutional requirements.

The Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart, also read a separate notice detailing allegations of gross misconduct against Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu during the same sitting.

This is the third time the Rivers state House of Assembly had moved to impeach Governor Fubara since 2023 he assumed office.
