Qatar shoots down Iranian fighter Jets as Gulf tensions escalate

Government of Qatar has confirmed it shot down two Iranian Su-24 fighter jets amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Thick smoke was seen rising from parts of Doha’s industrial area after what officials described as Iranian strikes targeting energy and civilian facilities. Qatar authorities said the country’s air defense system successfully intercepted several missiles and drones aimed at key locations, including Hamad International Airport.

QatarEnergy announced a temporary suspension of liquefied natural gas production following military attacks on its facilities.The development came as several Arab nations including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates alongside the United States issued a joint statement condemning Iran’s missile and drone attacks, describing them as a dangerous escalation threatening regional stability.

In Oman, an oil tanker was struck in the Gulf of Oman, leading to a fire onboard and the death of one crew member.

Saudi Arabia confirmed damage to the Ras Tanura refinery operated by Saudi Aramco after a drone strike, though no casualties were reported.Oil prices went high with Brent crude rising amid fears of disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.

Authorities across the Gulf say they remain on high alert as diplomatic tensions continue to rise.
