Public hearing on Tariff petition : MainPower calls for review of  EERC’s  tariff,says it lacks due process

MainPower Electricity Distribution Limited , Thursday, 16Th October,2025, at the public hearing  on Tariff petition held at the International Conference Centre I CC Enugu maintained that Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC)  did not follow due process in arriving at the tariff of N160/kwh issued in its July 18, 2025 Order and calls for a review.

MainPower  made this known in it’s submission made during the One-Day public hearing .

Mainpower also maintained that EERC went against its own laid down business rule and issued an Order when there was no bilateral agreement between both parties.

It also maintained that ” EERC did not use the numbers presented to it, rather resorted to cherrypicking of numbers to suit their purpose”

MainPower disclosed that an independent party, KPMG, a reputable audit firm was engaged to review this same process and their report shows that the parameters used by EERC were wrong.

The  Managing Director, ,MainPower Electricity Limited, Dr Ernest Mupwaya  ,in the company ‘s submission, said 

EERC should use the actual numbers that reflect the realities on ground, instead of assumptions.

The Director, Research and Advocacy Association of Nigerian Electricity Distribution, Sunday Oduntan, said  the regulatory authority shall put into consideration ,parameters that determined the cost of production to be able  to remain in business 

Chairperson of the Consumer Association in Enugu state decried the sufferings of consumers and urged them to put it into consideration .

She urged that distribution companies should be discouraged from high charges, which subject the 

Enugu state Electrification Agency and South East electricity consumers association made their submissions.

Stakeholders spoke on various issues which included  cost of  operation, re-evaluation of assets, energy allocations and electric policies among others.

Earlier, the chairman of Enugu Electricity Regulatory Commission, Chijioke Okonkwo said EERC received petitions from Mainpower Electricity  Distribution Limited  on tariff petition

He urged stakeholders to participate actively in the process of regulatory  electricity in Enugu state
