Parties, Candidates to pay ₦150m advert permit for 2026, 2027 Polls – ENSSAA

Political parties and candidates who wish to contest in the 2026 and 2027 elections in Enugu State will now pay a mandatory ₦150 million fee for advertising permit in Enugu state

This followed a new directive by the Enugu State Structures for Signage and Advertisement Agency (ENSSAA).
The agency announced the decision on Monday during a management meeting held at its headquarters in the New State Secretariat Complex, GRA, Enugu.

Speaking at the meeting, the General Manager of ENSSAA, Francis Aninwike, said the permit would apply to all political parties and candidates participating in the 2026 local government elections and the 2027 state and federal general elections.

According to him, the ₦150 million fee grants parties and candidates the legal right to deploy campaign materials and carry out visual promotions across the 17 local government areas of the state.
He explained that the permit covers rallies, banners, posters, branded vehicles, T-shirts, caps, handbills, buntings and other forms of outdoor campaigns in both urban and rural communities.

“Every political party and candidate must obtain a campaign permit from ENSSAA before deploying any form of visual campaign material. The statutory fee is ₦150 million, payable to the Enugu State Government account,” Aninwike said.

He said the directive was in line with the agency’s statutory mandate to regulate outdoor advertising, ensure environmental cleanliness, prevent visual pollution and protect public infrastructure.
The ENSSAA boss warned that any party or candidate who fails to comply with the new regulation risks having their campaign materials removed and may face legal sanctions.
Aninwike also stressed that only practitioners licensed by the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) would be allowed to erect billboards or campaign structures within the state.
He cautioned against the defacing or destruction of opponents’ campaign materials, describing such acts as undemocratic and punishable under the law.
Dismissing fears of selective enforcement, Aninwike assured that the guidelines would apply equally to all parties and candidates, including those in government. He added that Governor Peter Mbah has consistently complied with advertising regulations in his campaign and official promotions.
He urged political actors to conduct issue-based campaigns and avoid treating elections as a “do-or-die affair,” reiterating the agency’s commitment to professionalism and orderliness in outdoor advertising across Enugu State.
