Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese,Most Reverend Dr. Callistus Onaga has expressed the confidence that the new year,2026 will be better than past years, urging leaders to lead well and improve the economy of the nation..
He stated this in his new year message presented to newsmen in Enugu recently.
According to the Bishop, things were not so good economically in 2025, hopefully, “things will be better in 2026”.

His words, ” Things were not good economically in 2025 in this country and that takes me to the new year message that in the year 2026, things will turn around to be better. In the year 2026, our economy should improve. People should be able to go to the market and buy something.”The value of Niara should come up”
Speaking about preaching the gospel, he urged preachers to preach the truth., saying, ” And then my dear brothers and sisters, those who preach the good news, that we preach truth. That we tell truth to the people.”
To the leaders he said they should lead well, and make Nigeria rich. “And that we make this very nation, very rich, we have always said it, in both natural and human resources that we make this very nation a place to live in.
“Our dear brothers who are politicking now, who are leading us, lead us well. in the year 2026 so that we shall have some kind of harmony. Above all, let us tell ourselves the truth.
“If we promised to pay the workers more, let that not be a reality.Let it not be a question of one state will pay, another state will not pay.
“Again, for everybody, let us contribute to make the nation state Nigeria what God has made it to be actually a land flowing with honey and milk,” he said..
Condemning kidnapping, he spoke to the people involved in the act saying, “For those of us who have chosen the other way. to take people for granted and deprive them of their freedom by way of kidnapping. May we say that this year, 2026, we will not do anything like kidnapping. It is possible for us to do it. We can practise it. We can survive without taking another person’s life. We can survive without making another person a hostage or something like that.
“May we make a good resolution in the year 2026. That good resolution will be to begin from myself.To correct myself and then correct my environment and then look towards the nation state Nigeria and make it better. It is not enough to say I won’t drink and you still go and drink.
” It is not enough to say I will not beat my wife. By then, even within that your house, you are not beating your wife, but there is cold war.
“Let us all decide together in the year 2026 to make things better, giving our human condition. May Jesus Christ, whom we celebrated his birth, who is the saviour of the world, take over Nigeria,” Bishop Onaga prayed.
He appealed to kidnappers to release people they held in captivity, saying, ” all those who are keeping human beings with them, please my dear brothers, bring them out. This year, 2026, we are going to see a lot of miracles happen.If you think it is impossible, it can happen. Bring them out before you are forced to bring them out.And let our governments do something to show that they care for us.Through Christ our Lord.,’ he prayed.
