Enugu state Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Nathanael Chukwuemeka Urama, has said that Enugu State’s emergence as host of this year’s FAAC PostMortem Sub-Committee annual retreat reflects growing national recognition of the state’s far-reaching fiscal and governance reforms.

He noted that Enugu has, in recent years, taken deliberate steps to strengthen fiscal discipline, block revenue leakages and significantly grow its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), reforms which have now drawn the attention of key actors in Nigeria’s revenue management system.
Speaking with newsmen on Monday in Enugu, Dr. Urama said the theme of the workshop centres on fiscal policy strategies for closing leakages in federal allocation accounts, with the overall aim of improving transparency and boosting revenue performance across the federation.

He explained that while the FAAC Post-Mortem Committee meets monthly to review revenue allocation outcomes, the annual retreat provides a broader platform for in-depth engagement on systemic challenges affecting revenue collection and distribution nationwide.

Dr. Urama said digitisation of revenue processes was a major reform strategy adopted by the Enugu State Government, stressing that the automation of revenue collection and distribution systems has reduced human interference, improved traceability and strengthened monitoring mechanisms.
He added that beyond technology, strong institutional leadership, transparency and accountability among officials managing revenue systems remain critical to achieving sustainable fiscal outcomes.
The commissioner further disclosed that technical presentations at the workshop are focusing on both technological and managerial approaches to eliminating revenue leakages, with sessions scheduled to continue over the next two days before the programme concludes.

The Commissioner explained that participants at the workshop, drawn from revenue-generating and oversight institutions across the country, were examining practical solutions to revenue losses occurring at both the collection and distribution stages of public finance.
According to him, issues such as unapproved deductions, indiscriminate waivers and other structural loopholes that undermine the integrity of the Federation Account are receiving critical attention..

Participants at the workshop commended Enugu State for its ongoing infrastructure development and governance reforms, noting that improvements in public administration and service delivery have contributed to the state’s rising revenue profile and improved investment outlook.
The event attracted top fiscal stakeholders, including officials from the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), members of the FAAC Post-Mortem Sub-Committee, as well as representatives of federal and state revenue-generating agencies involved in revenue collection and distribution across the country
