At 13th Convocation, Godfrey Okoye University convokes 660 graduates 

Godfrey Okoye University ,Enugu , Saturday convoked  660 graduates ,recording 22 first class honours in it’s 13th Convocation.,

Speaking at the Convocation ceremony held at the permanent site of the University, at Ugwuomu- Nike, the vice- chancellor,  Rev Prof Dr  Christian Anieke said it was the first time in the history of  the university, a person who has been Vice-Chancellor- for -One -Day  has emerged the overall best graduating studentt “of the 2025 set ..He said the best overall student , Ms Azubike Nkenna Mary with the ( CGPA 4.96) of Psychology Department

 According to the Vice- Chancellor, from the University ‘s first Convocation 2013  till date, the University has produced 4,431 graduates ,who are in different parts of the world reading, working, ” spreading the sweet aroma of GO University values ,of hardwork, spirituality and dialogue” .

Highlighting the achievements of the University , the Vice- chancellor said the GO-Uni  ” is going higher in our college of Medicine In the Second MBSS examination, our first set of medical students set a record with 9 distinctions in Anatomy and many distinctions in other areas.

He disclosed that the University was among the private Universities that have  teaching hospitals and that  that their teaching hospital has 200 beds, x- ray machines, CT- scans, modern ultrasound machines  and dialysis centre..He added that the intensive care unit will be ready soon.

Rev  Prof Anieke disclosed that , “the  Governor of Enugu state ,Dr Peter Mbah  is partnering with the university  for the expansion  of the DNA Learning Centre. He said the GO- Uni had it’s 19 Inaugural lecture, which was delivered by the secretary to the Enugu state government, Prof Chidiebere Onyia.

On the population of the students,  he said  the figure had risen from 215 students to  over 500 students, and that  the University had 87 fully accredited programmes. 

Speaking on  the achievements recorded the Vice-Chancellor  said the University has won many laurels , including the Winner of Nigerian debate championship, in 2024, Abuja City Journal National Essay, 2025,  Chartered Institute of Personnel ,South East Regional quiz , among others

Advising the graduates  Rev Prof Anieke urged them to be worthy ambassadors  of the Godfrey Okoye University.. He congrratulatex the graduates on the succedà

In his address, the Governor of Enugu state, Dr. Peter Mbah, represented by the Deputy Governor,Ifeanyi Ossai , congratulated the graduates . He said their Convocation  suggested they were found  worthy both in character and learning. He expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor-, the Bishop/ Promoter, and all staff of the University.. He reassured continous support of the Enugu state government to the University.

Also in his speech, the   Promoter, and Bishop of Catholic Diocese of  Enugu , Most Rev Dr Callistus Onaga, thanked the Vice- Chancellor, the governing council, the senate , professors and lecturers  of the University for a consistent  celebration of  Convocation  ceremonies since it’s establishment in 2019.

He announced that the University has secured accreditation for the College of Medicine  granted by  the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for MBBS ( Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery ) examinations.

.The Bishop added that approval has been granted  for the Bachelor of Nursing Science from  the National Universities Commission( NUC). He disclosed that , ” GO-Uni  had now a total of 89 programmes (43) undergraduate programmes and 46 postgraduate programmes, including Ph.D programmes .

He said  recently, he blessed 56 – room Odengene Foundation hostel handed over  by the Founder,  Everest Nnaji among other developments.

Congratulating the graduates, Bishop Onaga adviced them to adhere to the discipline and decorum  that they have imbibed in the University.

The Chancellor of the University, His Grace,Most Rev Dr. Ignatius Kiagama congratulated the graduates and the management of the University. He lamented the high rate of unemployment in the country, saying that it pains him when  young graduates approach him for jobs.  He noted that the Catholic church employed people where and when needed

Earlier in his speech, the chairman of the Governing Council  and Pro Chancellor of the University, Prof  Dr. Christian  Okeke congratulated the graduates , thanked the Awardees , parents and friends of the graduates for their support to the University.thanked the 

In her valedictory speech on behalf of the 2025  set, the overall best grad  student , Mary Nkenna Azubukke, said their graduation was a  proof they won .

“We’ve cried, we have rejoiced with friends, and we have said that, or how the smallest indivisible particle is no longer an atom, but  keep up with demands, priorities are placed not just on speed and adaptability but precision and accuracy. 

“Many already believe that we can no longer afford to make mistakes, but I do not fully agree with that; we are humans and making mistakes is part of our nature. However, I agree with the sentiment, and so I say, while we are allowed to make mistakes, we cannot afford not to learn from them. as my parting gift, I have decided to draw up the lessons these last four years have imparted on me and share them all with you, just so we are more equipped to face the ⁹ daunting future that lies ahead.

“Lesson one: know yourself FC best student know your goals. 

You cannot hope for a breakthrough while wallowing in self-pity or laziness or nonchalance or whatever it is that makes you think it is ever okay to settle.

And that brings me to my third lesson: even when you think you are at the top, you can always climb higher.

“Setting SMART goals; th measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bound”

She  noted they are incredibly important because they keep us motivated by outlining where we are and where we want to be, but then what happens when nature happens and plans go up in flames? That is when smart rebounds will save you. One thing people rarely talk about is the fact that linear plans rarely ever work because there are simply too many things beyond our control, and if you are not ready with a backup plan when that happens”, she said.

“The overall best graduate commended all those who supported her. 

To the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Christian Anieke, the principal officers and members of the senate, down to the academic and administrative staff, there would not be a Godfrey Okoye University without you and more specifically, we would not be proud to call ourselves alumni of this great institution “, she said. 

She thanked her parents and siblings for their support 

ad well as her faculty, the  Faculty of Management and Social Sciences and most especially, the Department of Sociology/Psychology,.

” My family for the past four years and greatest supporters, and of course, my second family, GOUni Radio– thank you for taking a chance on the barely confident 200 level student and turning her into this formidable woman who can face thousands and speak without flinching,” she said..

Ffecipients of the Doctor of Management ( Homoris Causal) Captain Everest  Nnaji, and Nnamdi Ozor, the Chief Executive of Tribu hotels, in their separate speeches, thanked the University for the awards. They commended the management of the University for their commitments in ensuring the growth of the University

Highlight of the event was a celebration of Holy mass the v the convocation..
