Enugu State Police Command continues to sustain its proactive operational and anti-crime strategies with the recovery of an AK-47 magazine loaded with thirty (30) rounds of live ammunition following a gun duel with suspected kidnappers, as well as the arrest of a suspected serial armed robber with a locally made firearm.

According to the Police public relations officer of the command, SP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement made available to Newsmen on Saturday in Enugu, “On 1st May 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., Police Operatives attached to the Unity Division, in collaboration with Forest Guards, while on a crime-prevention bush-combing operation in Enugu East Local Government Area, encountered suspected armed kidnappers.

” The suspects engaged the joint security team in a gun duel but fled with varying degrees of gunshot wounds due to the operatives’ superior firepower. One AK-47 magazine loaded with thirty (30) rounds of live ammunition and one winter cap were recovered, while efforts have been intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

“In a separate operation on 28th April 2026, at about 9:20 a.m., Police Operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), acting on credible and timely intelligence, arrested one Odume Junior, aged 27, at the Mgbemena/Akwata Sub-Market area of Ogbete Main Market. The suspect, linked to armed robbery activities, was found in possession of a locally made cut-to-size gun loaded with one live cartridge, as well as items used for consuming methamphetamine, locally known as “Mkpụrụ Mmịrị.” Investigation is ongoing to arrest his fleeing accomplices, after which he will be arraigned in court.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, while commending the operatives and collaborating Forest Guards for their courage and professionalism, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining proactive policing and flushing out criminal elements and activities in Enugu State.

” He urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and continue providing credible and timely information to the Police and other security agencies to enhance public safety and security across the stste”, Ndukwe said.
