Over 150 suspected bandits drown in Sokoto boat mishap

Over 150 suspected bandits have reportedly drowned following a tragic boat mishap in Sokoto State

The incident, said to have occurred on Saturday evening in the Sabon Gida area, involved a boat conveying a large number of armed men across a river.

According to security sources, the vessel suddenly capsized mid-journey, throwing all occupants into the water.
A counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the development in a post on X, noting that the bandits were travelling in unusually large numbers when the mishap happened.
He explained that many of the occupants reportedly lacked swimming skills, a factor believed to have contributed significantly to the high casualty figure.
“Preliminary information suggests that many of them could not swim, leading to heavy casualties,” Makama said, adding that early reports indicated that none of the passengers survived.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation or statement from security agencies regarding the incident.
