CP Giwa urges Churches to strengthen security

Commissioner of police,, Enugu state Police Command, Mamman Giwa has called on church communities to adopt stronger security measures to protect property, and their spiritual mandate.

He made the appeal during a security seminar held at the Christ Anglican Church Uwani,,Enugu, where members of the Diocese’s security network gathered for the training.


Represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the Commissioner of Police stressed that churches must combine spirituality devotion with practical security strategies.

He referenced the biblical teaching in the Gospel of Matthew urging believers to “watch and pray,” noting that faith must go hand-in-hand with vigilance.

Giwa highlighted key areas of concern, including the safety of congregants especially vulnerable groups , the protection of church property, and the preservation of the church’s mission of worship, evangelism, and service.

He advised churches to improve monitoring during services, strengthen internal security structures, and ensure accountability in the management of resources.
The police boss also encouraged closer collaboration between church security teams and law enforcement agencies through timely and credible information sharing.

According to him, such cooperation is critical to preventing crime and responding effectively to security threats.


Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to community-based policing, Commissioner Giwa urged residents of Enugu State to remain law-abiding and security-conscious, adding that collective efforts are essential to sustaining peace and safety across the state.
The seminar, he said, is part of ongoing initiatives by the Command to engage key stakeholders in building a safer society.
