APC commends Enugu chapter on peaceful ward congresses,  inclusiveness of women, PLWD

All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended  Enugu State chapter  of the party for the peaceful and successful conduct of  it’s ward congresses across the state’s 260 political wards and inclusiveness of women and the persons living with disabilities in elective positions.

The party described the exercise as a reflection of unity, transparency, and inclusiveness within the party.

 Chairman of the APC Ward and Local Government Congresses Committee for Enugu State, Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, gave the commendation while briefing Newsmen on Thursday on the exercise held on Wednesday.

He thanked party members for their orderly conduct during the congresses  and  inclusion of women and Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWD) in the process.

Funkekeme said the committee was mandated to oversee the exercise and ensure strict adherence to the party’s constitution and guidelines. 

According to him, the  committee  monitored the congresses at the ward level to guarantee credibility and fairness

“We are happy the party is strengthening. We have come to Enugu to ensure peace and unity. The party is united and organised. We ensured that all the processes meet the party guidelines,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction with the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the exercise, noting that it demonstrated growing cohesion and internal democracy within the party in Enugu State.

The chairman said they ensured inclusiveness.” We ensured  that all  the positions  meant for  women  were given  to the women  and the persons living with disabilities were given their considered positions  and no one had the right  to change it.  Enugu is firm on that”, he said .

The committee chairman further disclosed that members of the team would remain in the state to supervise the forthcoming local government congresses scheduled to hold on Saturday across the 17 local government areas. He assured party faithful that the same level of peace and order recorded during the ward congresses would be sustained.

“The Committee will ensure that the same peace observed in the ward congresses will be seen in the LG congresses,” he said.

Describing the APC as a party open to all Nigerians regardless of background, Funkekeme reiterated its commitment to fairness and equal opportunity for aspirants, saying, ” the committee has come to do what is right  and to ensure  that all the  candidates are qualified”. 

He disclosed that 7 positions were given to women in each ward.

In a vote of thanks, the Secretary of the  APC  Enugu Caretaker Committee, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh, commended the committee for it’s  role in deepening democracy and strengthening party structures at the grassroots.

Members of the  committee for the ward congresses included Barr. Abraham Agbo (Secretary), Emma Igbo, Chinedu, Comrade Harrison, and Melodu Igbo Franklin, who monitored proceedings to ensure compliance with party regulations.
