Community leader urges women to  promote peace, embrace  agriculture , empowerment programs

A community woman  leader, national Chairperson, Nsukwu National Union (Women’s Wing) Dr.  Maureen Ikpeama has urged women to embrace agriculture , Empowerment programs and promote  peace  in their communities, noting that it is only through  peaceful coexistence that  communities can develop .

She also urged them to go into agriculture and  embrace various empowerment programs brought to their communities inorder to be  economically  empowered and self reliant.

She made the call in an address  she presented at the December 2025 National convention of the Nsukwu National Union Women’s Wing held on Tuesday at the Ike -God, Oye-Ezigwe.community hall.

She lauded the efforts of the illustrious sons and daughters of the community in bringing  development which includes massive road constructions, construction of churches, schools ,drilling of boreholes, youth and women empowerment, installation of street solar lights, award of scholarships to students among others.

Giving a run down of her administration’s achievements so far, the National chairperson said they came into office on 30Th December,2024 and had carried out various  empowerment programs in which indigent  women drawn from the 9  wards of the community were given money to start petty trading courtesy, Iyom Amurigibeze, Double Doctor Angela Umeora.

She added that women were being encouraged to have something good doing and be self reliant.

She disclosed that knowing the importance of  agriculture, the Union approached the  men’s wing for a piece of land and the men’s wing under the leadership of Chief Kenneth  Ezechinedu Nwokolo , allocated 7 plots of land to the women’s wing, where they set up a palm plantation and planted 100 palm seedlings.

Dr. Ikpeama announced that they will carry out massive agricultural programs in 2026.

She thanked the immediate past executives, home and abroad branch members for uplifting the community.

Earlier in an opening remarks, the Vice Chairperson and  immediate past Social secretary, Iyom Osinigwe Ifeoma Gab-Okoye, welcomed the women to the convention. She appreciated their presence and urged them to be attentive in the lectures.

There were lectures on health and agriculture. Delivering a lecture on the Theme of the Convention, ” Health and Agriculture for economic development and food sufficiency”, , the Resource person and Agricultural Expert Ikenna Nnalugha urged women to go into agriculture . He disclosed that agriculture is not only farming , that there is money in grass cutter keeping, maggots production, piggery, fishery and other aspects of agriculture.

Anambra state Health Insurance Agency ( ASHIA’ team were present at the convention and delivered a lecture on health and health insurance.

Highlights of the convention were the distribution of  bags of rice to over 500 women in attendance and presentation of trophy won by Nsukwu women  at the 2025 ADO  Women ‘s Conference to the national Chairperson.She thanked them for their commitments and outstanding performances at the conference and encouraged them to do more.
