Ugonna Nwodo has been elected new President of the Nsukka Youth General Assembly (NYGA) following a keenly contested bye-election to fill the leadership vacuum created by its impeached former President, Clinton Ogbonna.
Nwodo scored a total of 512 votes to emerge winner in the election, which took place in Nsukka on Sunday. He lwas declared President-elect by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Cosmas Ezea.
It could be recalled that two other contestants Bonaventure Omego and Mr Kenneth Eze, where screened out for not meeting the electoral guildline and requirement to contest.
In his acceptance speech, Nwodo thanked members of the assembly for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the organisation.
He noted that his mandate was to complete the remaining tenure of Ogbonna originally allocated to Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, assuring them of his readiness to immediately commence work.
The NGYA new President-elect said he plans to roll out people-oriented and youth-focused initiatives, including impactful programmes and scholarship opportunities aimed at empowering young people.
Also, the President of Igbo-Etiti Youths, Mr Nicholas Odozor, described the victory as a reaffirmation of equity and due process.
According to him, the result ensures that Igbo-Etiti completes the remaining two years of its tenure before the leadership rotates to another local government area for a full four-year term, in line with the association’s provisions.ñembers of the association applauded the peaceful conduct of the election and congratulated the new president on his emergence.
They pledged their support for his administration and encouraged him to work closely with government agencies and well-meaning individuals to attract development programmes and create sustainable employment opportunities for youths in the area.
