L.G election:Mbah urges voters to vote APC

Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, has charged voters to reject vote-splitting and support APC candidates across the board in Saturday’s local government elections, urging them to “vote APC all the way, from top to bottom.”

He gave the charge on Thursday at Amagunze, headquarters of Nkanu East Local Government Area, during a grand finale of the APC rally jointly organised by Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Area ahead of the September 26 local government election.

The governor cautioned APC supporters against attempts by political actors to persuade voters to support different parties for different positions.
“Let no one lie to you. Let no one deceive you about splitting your votes by voting different candidates of different political parties for different positions. It is all lies. Vote APC all the way, from top to bottom. There is no room for vote sharing,” he said.

He urged residents to come out en masse on Saturday and cast their votes, saying the development recorded under his administration had been supported by reforms and increased funding associated with the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“You have to vote in the coming local government elections because of what you see around you. If our opponents ask you why you should vote APC, tell them to look around. It is as clear as daylight,” he said.
Mbah further urged voters not to take the election for granted, stressing: “It is not over until it is over. Come out on Saturday and thumbprint for APC.

‘Our Weakest Link Is Rural Areas’
The governor said his administration had identified rural communities as a critical area requiring greater attention, particularly in the fight against poverty.

“We recognise that our weakest link is our rural areas and that is why we are paying serious attention to providing infrastructure in our rural areas – roads, Smart Green Schools and Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres, among others,” he said.
He said local government chairmen had been encouraged to compete in delivering development projects, including boreholes, rural roads and healthcare facilities, to their communities.

Mbah also said increased funding to states and local governments had created greater fiscal space for development, noting that some ongoing projects were made possible by federal support.

The governor’s emphasis on rural infrastructure is consistent with the administration’s publicly stated development programme, which includes roads, schools and primary healthcare facilities across the state. The state government recently reported 1,521km of roads, 7,000 classrooms and 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres among its first-term milestones.

Speaking the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Chairman of Nkanu East LGA, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, welcomed governor and Mbah to the council area and pledged the continued support of the people to the APC and the governor’s administration.

He described the local government election as an opportunity for voters to demonstrate their support for APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Nkanu West LGA, Chief John Ogbodo, commended Mbah for the Smart Green Schools and other development projects across the council.
The member representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Nnoli Nnaji, also praised the governor’s development initiatives.

Nnaji said federal lawmakers from Enugu East Senatorial District had been complementing the state government’s efforts, citing the provision of electricity transformers to each of the 14 wards in Nkanu East and mobility support for party officials and the Neighbourhood Watch in the constituency.

The rally attracted the Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District, Senator Kevin Chukwunwike; APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Dr. Ben Nwonye; South-East APC Zonal Woman Leader, Dr. Oby Ajih; APC Enugu State Chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike; members of the National and State Assemblies, party leaders and supporters.
The event formed part of the APC’s mobilisation ahead of the September 26 council election, with Mbah using the rally to link the local government contest to his administration’s broader development agenda and the party’s preparations for 2027.
